DSWD 7'S TRAINING FACILITY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY RECEIVES TV SETS FROM JCI CEBU, INC.
The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II of the DSWD Field Office 7–Central Visayas received two brand new television sets from the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cebu, Inc. during a turnover ceremony held at the AVRC II Multi-Purpose Building in Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City.
The donation comes from the proceeds of the 2nd Jaycees Cup, a charity golf tournament organized by JCI Cebu as part of its advocacy to support persons with disabilities. JCI Cebu chose AVRC II trainees as the primary beneficiaries of the initiative.
The Jaycees Cup took place on May 30, 2025, at the Alta Vista Golf Club, gathering golf enthusiasts who united for a common cause—to empower individuals with disabilities through access to better training and improved educational resources at the AVRC II.
The event organizers stated that they created the tournament not only to unite golf enthusiasts but also to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities. Funds raised from the event will support the Department’s social and vocational rehabilitation programs for this sector.
"This started as a way for us to enjoy the sport we love with our fellow members," said JCI Cebu, Inc. President Jefferson Ombe. "But playing while supporting a cause that matters made it a truly fulfilling experience. It embodies what we believe in at JCI—that service to humanity is the best work of life."
DSWD 7 accepted the donated items to significantly enhance the learning and training experience of both current and future AVRC II trainees.
Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero expressed gratitude to the members of the JCI Cebu for choosing the AVRC II as the beneficiary of their noble work. “These televisions will help create a more conducive learning environment for the trainees, equipping them with the skills necessary for employment and entrepreneurship,” she said.
JCI Cebu, Inc. President Jefferson Ombe, along with fellow JCI members, led the turnover. Regional Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero and AVRC II Training Superintendent Dr. Jera C. Armendarez, MD, MPH, MDM, received the items.
