AVRC II and BCPD Partnership Produces 25 New TESDA Cookery National Certificate Level II (NC II) Passers
The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II) and Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD) partnership, strongly maintained for the last five years, yields another milestone with the 100% passing of the AVRC II trainees and staff in the Cookery National Certificate Level II (NC II) assessment done by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The BCPD provided the Cookery training to four staff and 21 trainees of the AVRC II through their scholarship program in CY 2021. A pre-assessment refresher was done in the AVRC II on June 9-10, 2022 in preparation for the assessment. After the pre-assessment, continues reinforcement of the basic steps and preparation for oral evaluation was facilitated by the AVRC II instructor in Commercial Cooking, Ms. Arcelie B. Almendras.
The assessment was made in three batches starting on June 18-20, 2022 at the Banilad Center for Professional Development with Mr. Frank Navarro as the accredited TESDA assessor. During the assessment, Mr. Navarro gave an orientation to the trainees on the assessment process, assigned specific food to prepare within corresponding time limit, observed the cooking process and asked questions for the oral evaluation of each candidate. A one-on-one feedback to the candidate on the result of their food preparation process was given by the assessor.
Another feature in this success is the inclusion of varied disability categories in the training and assessment. The trainees have varied categories of disability and for the those with hearing disability, the AVRC II staff, Ms Adeline G. Orozco and Ms. Cherma Lynn M. Chavez, facilitated the sign language interpretation to the deaf during the training and actual assessment, respectively.
All candidates passed the assessment and are now holders of the Cookery National Certificate Level II (NCII). This certification has given additional knowledge and skills and also provides greater chances of employment to the AVRC II trainees. The staff are also glad to have earned additional certification to their credentials. The BCPD and the AVRC II management are proud of the results of the assessment and recommended to continue the partnership for the benefits of many persons with disabilities.
